Free Software! McLUG's first install fest!

The Install Fest will be on Friday October 3rd, from 15h00 to 21h00 in Burnside Hall room 1B18. This software includes a Microsoft compatible Office Suite, with many mail clients, web browsers and other software titles and packages to choose from. All you need to do is bring your tower (we'll provide the monitor, keyboard and mouse) to our install fest and an advanced Linux user will guide you through the install. You can even keep your evil corporate software and run both if you desire!

Keep and eye on open.mcgill.ca for more info as we get ready to launch our new web site.

Download the install fest poster in PDF format from here.

This website isn't very active, instead the mailing list is where most communications are. Email me for info on how to subscribe. I hope to recruit some volunteers to get the website more interesting and useful some time this semester. If you are interested, please email me.

As promised on the McLUG mailing list, I have mirrored the Gentoo 'LiveCD's. They are here. Please note that I haven't tried them yet, so I don't know how well they work (if at all).

If you don't have access to a burner, let me know and I'll try to burn you a copy.

Ok, 4 months has gone by without any updates on this page, but with interested discussions on the mailing list. Now that summer is almost here, maybe it is time for a new meet?

On an unrelated note, I finally updated the easter egg on our main web server.

January 25th, 2003

Our first meeting has come and gone, thanks to all that came out - there will be more. Next on the todo list is to get a real web site going. This will be in the works, but only until after February 10th. I have a big deadline with my day job (new servers - running linux of course - and new design/features). If you have ideas for the website, and/or want to volunteer to do some/all of the work, please email me.

Like the new McTux? :-) Bigger version here although, I prefer this motto.

If you are here looking for the YellowDog Linux Mirror, it is here.

Our first meeting! Friday, January 17th, 2003 at 14:00 EST. We will be meeting at the Second Cup in McGill Metro station. This will be a pretty informal meeting and all are welcome. (Yes, I have changed the order of the messages on this page to reverse chronological).

Ok, things are still moving slowly, but we now have a mailing list. Contact me if you are interested in joining. Once I get back from holidays (January 3rd), I'll get a bit more pro-active in getting things going.

Ok, things are still moving a bit on the slow side, and this is my fault. Baby #2 arrived on Wednesday so I'm on paternity leave and sleep is in short supply. We should have our mailing list setup soon. Everyone who expressed interest and emailed me will be auto-subscribed to the list (unless you ask me not to). I also heard from Nicholas Accad (the webmaster for MLUG) and I would hope that we'll be able to do things with them as well as on campus stuff. More to come soon.

Things are moving slowly, but moving. We have to change the name from MLUG to McLUG because there already is an MLUG for the Montreal Linux Users Group. Check their site out at www.mlug.ca. We should probably consider working with them.

In the meantime, here is something interesting to read.

October 3rd, 2002

More to come soon, but for now, if you are a member of the McGill Community and are interested in Linux, or use Linux please let me know and I'll email you when we have organized (should be soon).
